Keen Clean experts share a few healthier ways to do the chores at home. And the best thing is – all of them are beneficial not only for you but for the environment as well!
Make Your Own Green Cleaning Products
We have already posted here an extensive, two-part article covering the various toxic ingredients in our everyday cleaning products. You can read it here and here. All-purpose and oven cleaners, air-fresheners, and even – antibacterial soaps consist ingredients that can harm our health.
We know, that in some cases using a heavy-duty cleaning product is the only way to get rid of dirt and bacteria. However, there are some recipes for green homemade cleaners that are as effective as the ones you buy in the store. Here are a few suggestions from our blog:
Invest in a Steam Cleaner
Steamers are one of the most efficient and environmentally friendly tools to clean and disinfect anything in your home. You can use it for tiles, mattresses, carpets, upholstery, kitchen countertops, toilets and bathrooms! These machines spray extremely hot water under high pressure and easily remove dirt, dust and kill bacteria.
This is why it is not surprising that even professional carpet cleaners use them to deal with particularly dirty upholstery and rugs. When you clean with a steamer in most of the cases you don’t even need to add any cleaning product! The hot vapours are enough to deal with dirt and microbes.
Switch to Green Laundry Detergent
If you often suffer from redness, rashes, or dermatitis, changing your laundry detergent with a green one is first of the steps you can do to ease your condition and calm your skin. Moreover, eco-friendly products are highly recommended if you have a baby or toddler at home. Small children’ skin is more vulnerable to ingredients, found in common laundry liquids and compounds. If you want to take this step further, you can even make your own laundry detergent!
DIY Green Laundry Detergent Recipe:
1 part borax
1 part washing soda
½ part finely ground castile soap
Mix everything together and use as usual! If you want you can add a few drops of essential oil to give your laundry your favourite aroma, but this step isn’t mandatory. You can also replace the commercial fabric softener with white distilled vinegar.
These are just a few of the steps you can make to embrace a green way of living. They are easy, inexpensive, and can have a huge impact on your health.
