Steam Cleaning Solution
Using a steamer to clean your carpet is one of the best ways to kill bacteria settled deep into the fibres. And the best part is you don’t have to use a strong toxic product when cleaning with steam!
You will need:
- 2 tbsp dishwashing liquid
- ½ cup hydrogen peroxide
- ¼ cup white distilled vinegar
- 5-6 drops essential oil (optional)
Mix all the ingredients in a small bowl and stir until they blend well. The essential oil is not mandatory but it will give a nice odour to your detergent. Pour the mixture into the steamer’s container and fill it with water. Shake it well to allow the solution to dilute with the water. Turn on the steamer and run it over your carpet. After you cover the whole area, throw away the liquid from the container, pour clean water and run it again to ‘rinse’ the residues of the solution.
Carpet and Rug Freshener
A great, easy to prepare recipe that will help you remove foul odours from your carpet fast and safely. You can use it to get rid of pet odours, cigarette smell, smells from cooking as often as you want since it is very gentle to your carpet.
You will need:
- 1 cup of borax
- 1 cup of baking soda
- 7-8 drops of essential oil (optional)
Mix the dry ingredients well and add the essential oil. Stir well and sprinkle this powder directly onto your rug. Use a soft brush to spread the mixture evenly on the carpet. Let is sit for 20-30 minutes. The powder substances are doing the magic here – both baking soda and borax soak up unpleasant odour very efficiently. The essential oil is optional, however, it will leave a nice delicate odour into the room. Vacuum carefully the powder from the carpet.

You will need:
- 1 tsp distilled white vinegar
- ½ tsp ammonia
- 3 tbsp dishwashing liquid
- 2 cups cool water
Combine all the ingredients in a bowl and mix well. Pour the liquid into a foaming dispenser container (if you don’t have such container you can use an egg beater to make foam).
